The Punjab government has announced a large-scale plan to provide students across the province with high-performance laptops, aiming to strengthen digital literacy and level the playing field in higher education.
Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz approved the Punjab Laptop Scheme 2025, which will distribute 112,000 laptops equipped with Intel’s latest 13th-gen Core i7 processors to students in public universities and colleges. The rollout begins October 31, 2025.
Key Dates to Know
- Portal goes live: June 2025

Who Can Apply
To qualify, students must:
- Be enrolled in a public-sector university, college, or medical/dental school in Punjab.
- Score at least 65% marks for undergraduate programs or 80% for medical/dental studies.
- Not have received a laptop through earlier government schemes.
Applications will be submitted online, with students uploading academic transcripts and ID documents. To maintain transparency, the government will use a merit-based lottery system rather than manual selection.
Why It Matters
The program is designed to make sure deserving students—especially those from underserved backgrounds—have access to tools for online learning, research, and innovation. Officials say the initiative builds on previous efforts, such as distributing 14,000 laptops in Lahore alone, and expands access province-wide.
Chief Minister Nawaz emphasized that the move reflects Punjab’s commitment to modernizing education:
“This is about equal opportunity, critical thinking, and preparing our students for a tech-driven world,” she said.
With a growing emphasis on digital education globally, Punjab’s strategy places technology directly in the hands of students, ensuring they are not left behind in a rapidly changing job market.
