Huawei, HEC Set Sights on Expanding Pakistan’s Digital Education Network

Huawei and Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission (HEC) are preparing to deepen their collaboration in a push to modernize the country’s universities and equip students with advanced digital skills.

In a meeting on Monday, HEC Chairman Nadeem Mahbub welcomed a senior Huawei delegation led by Yushaoning, Vice CEO of Public Affairs, along with Pan Feng, Managing Director of the company’s Enterprise Business Group, and Ali Raza, Education Account Director.

The tech giant, which has worked with HEC for more than 15 years, reviewed its role in the Higher Education Development in Pakistan (HEDP) program and the establishment of ICT Academies across universities. These academies aim to train the next generation of digital talent—an effort already showing results. This year, Pakistani student teams claimed the top three spots in Huawei’s global ICT competition, a first for the country and a sign that its talent pipeline is maturing.

Discussions also focused on expanding digital infrastructure at Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), integrating artificial intelligence into teaching and research, and enhancing campus network systems. Huawei offered to work closely with HEC on accelerating these upgrades.

The company also invited HEC to present Pakistan’s “Education Cloud” case study at the Cloud & AI Summit during Huawei Connect 2025 in Shanghai, positioning the country’s education sector alongside global tech developments.

Chairman Mahbub praised Huawei’s sustained investment in Pakistan’s higher education sector, noting that such partnerships are essential as universities adapt to an increasingly AI-driven academic and employment landscape.
