The National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) have rolled out a nonstop flood relief operation across Punjab’s central region as heavy rains trigger widespread flooding. Officers are working in shifts to provide on-the-ground guidance, rescue support, and traffic management for stranded travelers.
Relief camps are now active along key routes, including Lahore’s Central Zone, the MC-1 corridor, and Multan’s MC-2 Zone near the M-5 Motorway.
Senior Officers Take Direct Charge
Top brass of the NHMP are personally leading the effort, with DIGs Dar Ali Khattak, Syed Farid Ali, and Imran Shahid overseeing operations. Officials say this hands-on approach is meant to speed up assistance and ensure coordination as weather conditions worsen.
Public Safety Warnings Issued
Authorities are urging people to stay off the roads where possible, particularly flooded highways and motorways. Travelers have been advised to:
- Avoid walking along motorways during floods.
- Postpone non-essential travel.
- Take extra precautions if they must be on the road.
The NHMP Helpline (130) remains operational 24/7 for real-time updates and emergency support.
Heavy Rain Forecast Raises Alarm
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for Punjab’s eastern rivers and nearby urban centers. Torrential rains are expected between September 1 and 3, 2025, with potential for dangerously high water levels in the Sutlej, Ravi, Beas, and Chenab rivers.
Cities including Lahore, Gujranwala, and Gujrat are also at risk of flash flooding, prompting officials to advise residents to monitor alerts closely and prepare for possible evacuations.
