Peru Introduces Digital Nomad-Residence Visa

Peru has joined over 50 nations in unveiling the “Digital Nomad-Residence” visa through Legislative Decree No. 1582. The new visa allows individuals to reside and work remotely in Peru for up to one year, marking a significant change in the country’s immigration regulations.

Under this visa, digital nomads in Peru face certain restrictions, such as being prohibited from earning salaries through local work or Peruvian companies. They are required to work exclusively for enterprises located outside of Peru. While the decree is in effect, the specifics of the new immigration process have yet to be defined by immigration authorities.

The National Superintendence of Migration (MIGRACIONES) is expected to issue clarifications in the coming days regarding the visa’s modalities. Currently, the application process and eligibility criteria, including the minimum required salary and financial requirements, remain undisclosed.

The available information suggests that the one-year status may be extendable after the initial 365 days.

Background on Digital Nomad Visas:

A digital nomad visa is a specialized permit offered by select countries, allowing individuals to reside and work remotely within their borders for a specific duration, typically ranging from a few months to a year. Targeting professionals, freelancers, or those in remote or digital-based roles, this visa enables them to maintain employment while exploring various locations and experiencing diverse cultures. Countries like Estonia, Germany, Portugal, Barbados, and Croatia already offer digital nomad visas, with others like Costa Rica, Mexico, Georgia, and the Czech Republic also welcoming remote workers and freelancers for specific durations.
