The Sindh government has taken a decisive step toward transforming Karachi into a major technology hub, finalizing €100 million worth of investment for the Special Technology Zone (STZ) at Karachi Education City.
Karachi Education City: From Academia to Innovation
Spread across 9,000 acres, Karachi Education City was originally conceived as a home for top universities and research institutions. Now, with the addition of a 435-acre Special Technology Zone, the project is shifting focus towards innovation-driven industries. The initiative is part of Pakistan’s broader strategy to set up STZs across the country, designed to attract global investors, scale up IT exports, and create high-value employment opportunities.
Agreements with Global Players
At a signing ceremony held at CM House, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah oversaw the formalization of two investment deals and one memorandum of understanding.
- Swiss firm M/S Meeco AG will supply renewable energy to power the zone.
- Meeco Holding plans to establish an advanced energy storage manufacturing facility, ensuring sustainable power for future tech operations.
These projects will form the backbone of a green-powered, innovation-friendly ecosystem at Karachi’s STZ.
